Nobody wants to be branded a "martial arts nutcase". Part of being a martial artist (or at least someone who trains in martial arts....) is all about having a life.
We were born on this Earth to experience physicality with all its fun and games. Why spend your life stuck in a dojo or living in a cave far from anywhere? Enlightment in these conditions is easy. The real challenge is doing it in the company of five billion-plus individuals.
If you want to understand life you have to get into the loop, as my post-modernist urban spiritual gurus would put it.
Martial arts training is about getting out there and getting involved. Get a job, start a business, have one drink too many, whatever. We're here to experience things.
Today, for example was a day off. We took a ride on an old steam train, complete with santa and elves. The kids had a great time, received presents from the big man, then we went to collect our Christmas tree.
The scenery in this part of the world is fantastic - I wish I had taken the camera.
Ah, never mind. Here's some links:

I've got a good week of "days off" from karate training due to various Christmas pageants, parties, and holiday events happening in the next days.
I've just accepted it as part of my life, and decided to enjoy the moments for what they are.. training will always be there for me to enjoy, but little children grow up.
